Is my GTX 560 Going Bad?

For about the past month my GTX 560 has been acting strange, I've had multiple driver crashes all while just sitting on the internet or listening to music, probably 5-8, and ASUS Smart Doctor has told me that "There is a problem with my VGA Adapter[...]" while in game (BF3). Most recently I have been getting this sort of problem in BF3:

It has appeared in Both Single and Multiplayer games, the problem comes and goes. Sometimes it will pop up in the first game I play on multiplayer, other times it doesnt happen till 2-3 hours in. My load temps are at 81c in BF3 and 78c in Dragon Age Origns. Is that too hot for this video card? What could be causing the drivers to crash for no aparent reason?

Help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Jared

Have you tried uninstalling your drivers and then reinstalling?

Also is this your first card or did you replace an old one with this as the old drivers may not have been removed properly.

I had a similar problem with an 8800gts a few weeks back (not on the same level as your problem) but that was because it was too hot so it may be that your card is hot. Im not sure what acceptable tempos are for a gtx 560 so someone else will have to elaborate on that.

I would definately try and reinstall your drivers, and try and up your fan speed if you havent already, i know that some companies leave stupidly low fan speeds on there cards. (my his 3870x2 was on like 20-30% iirc.)

This was the first card in the PC so their is no issue with different video card drivers, and I have re-installed the drivers completely.

which drivers are you using? try rolling back to earlier ones if your using the beta ones.

Also there ha sbeen some talk of OC'd cards causing issues in bf3...is your card overclockeD?

It is OC'ed from the factory to 850, do you guys recomend any programs to turn down the clock speeds?

I am not using the beta drivers im using the most up to date ones, Mtb211 were you having problems with your drivers crashing? or were you having the same problems in BF3? or both?

my drivers were crashing, I was receiving a black screen and I would have to open task manager and close the game... I updated my bios on my graphic card and it corrected the voltages and it has stopped crashing

This is where I found my fix

http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=213893

Try reducing your card to 850 with Ntune and I bet it wont crash

heres another article

I promise with a little work it will stop crashing... first thing I would do is check Asus to see if a bios flash would fix it...

I just discovered that my Powersupplys 12v power is only 20-25 amps and my graphics card requires a minimum of 30 amps from the 12v power. Could that be the problem?

wow Im suprised it even worked! do you have more than one rail? I will have to check your psu

Yeah I am using two 12v rails at 20-25 amps, So that should be more then the minimum they are looking for, right?

I would replace the PSU before replacing the card. Your system is too nice to have it rely on such a low quality PSU. Get a 650w or 750w if you ever get a second card in the future.

Gah, would everyone stop being all insta "replace PSU" just because of the brand name. Yes, the product a company makes speaks for the company. But the lot of you guys just say get a different one because they have one that isn't "recommended".

I'm not saying the PSU is or is not the problem, but definitely research the free solutions first before throwing money away. If his PSU is working fine then there is no need to replace it. Just because of the brand name doesn't mean that it's a time bomb waiting to destroy his computer.

In terms of your actual problem. Try this:

download driver sweeper.
uninstall your video drivers.
reboot into safe mode
run driver sweeper and delete all nvidia files
restart
pop in driver disk and reinstall drivers from there

Don't update to the latest drivers just yet. Try it like that and see if that reduces or eliminates the problem.
It's usually good to keep your drivers up to date, But to me, if there is no problem, I don't see a point. Similar to BIOS updates.

EDIT: and what drivers are you using? From ASUS or Nvidia?

I agree with your PSU thoughts, Troncoso.

As far as the graphics card goes, I went to best buy and picked up a NVIDIA GTX 560ti. With stock clock speeds and most up to date drivers I have not had the same problems I did with the ASUS card. I have 1 month to return the NVIDIA card, so if the problems comeback within that time frame I'll not its not the card, and presently it doesnt seem to be a issue with the drivers.

Does it do that on lower video settings also? I'm just wondering if it's a certain video setting that's more likely to cause this.

Best Buy told you wrong. If you've opened it and stuck it in your machine, then you have 14 days to return it for a full refund.

A new item that has not been opened has a 30 day return policy

....I worked there up until a couple months ago.

Either way, Not so sure you should have gone and gotten another card so soon, but if it's working properly, that's good. What are you doing with your other card?

Im holding on to my other card for about a week or so while I verify that my ASUS card is the actual problem. If it is not then, I'll return my best buy NVIDIA card and RMA my ASUS card.

Thank you for the info about the return policy, that would have been very bad!

So I just had the problem that I posted the video about occur with the card I just bought. Now Im really confused as to what could be the problem.
