is my motherboard dying?

i have posted a question on this forum a few weeks ago (http://www.computerforum.com/145020-graphics-card-issue.html).

it was regarding my monitor that sometimes will not power on. this happens when i turn the computer on and the motherboard does not post. when i hear the pleasant beep i knew my computer would boot up (until the next time). it was suggested that either my motherboard or my psu is creeping towards a slow death.

long story short i bought a Thermaltake Purepower 600w psu. the problem with my motherboard not posting was not resolved with the new psu.

SO i guess my question is...is my motherboard truly dying? could it be anything else? if i actually switched out the mb and found out i still have this problem i would be...not happy and without money

thanks for your help in advance

No matter what you think, I think it the sound of motherboard begging for coffin.

You should deassemble the hardware and try it on the other motherboard the see whether your motherboard really want to go to graveyard.

check the beep code with your bios manufacturer's info

if all else fails i'd disassemble all things not required to boot. example extra ram, extra hdd, cd drives, extra pci cards, etc. then put each back 1 by 1 and hopefully you'd find the problem

Intermittent problems are the hardest to find and the hardest to deal with. They can be a cable which is easy to fix or they can be a cold solder joint on a mainboard which is impossible for most of us to fix. The trouble shooting starts as DZnutz says. Get down to basics and then add things back one at a time to see if the issue can be somewhere outside the mainboard.
