Is My Trusty Samsung CRT Monitor Giving Up the Ghost?

I have had a Samsung SyncMaster 753DF CRT monitor for a number of years now (around 6-7). It worked great with my old Pentium 3 system and is now part of our second family system.

In the last few years every once in a great while the screen would turn pinkish and the colors would turn florescent bright. It wouldn't last long and for long periods never occur. In fact for the last year it was always clear -- until yesterday and today.

The sheer pink is ever present. No settings were changed. No power failures to speak of or hard reboots. It remained so until my son hit the back button at one point. It turned back to normal diusplay but eventuually the pink came back.

Any ideas that might correct this? I am fairly sure I will have to buy a new monitor and so be it but if I don't have to spend the money so much the better.

I am not enamored with widescreen models because what I have seen with my own eyes the clarity and color were underwhelming. My 17" Viewsonic LCD 5:4 is very clear and crisp; it is four years old. If I buy a new monitor I'll install the Viewsonic on the rig that ran the Samsung CRT.

Any suggestions for a monitor widescreen or non-widescreen? Budget would be $200 give or take $10. I will game and 1280x1024 resolution is quite fine by me.

Thanks.

I have a HP L1740 monitor. 17", 1280x1024, low response (like 5ms) and i can't remember the rest of the specs. it's got USB ports on it though! It uses DVI and VGA

See if there are any on newegg, I only paid $130 AU with shipping for mine.

for $220, I got a 24 inch monitor, 1080p, 2 ms

picture is great

check tigerdirect and newegg

mine is a benq and I love it, but it has no built in speakers and does not come with a DVI cable, if you really care

I also used to have a samsung syncmaster 750s, which I just replaced with the above monitor. It was still holding out great, but I got another one because of the heat it gave off. Also, over the first half our each time I ran it, the picture would drop about a quarter inch

Thanks for the responses guys.

@viper110110 - I really would prefer not having speakers so that is a + for me. And a greater native resolution would also be fine. My 9600GT video card can handle DVI and HDMI as well as resolutions up to 2560x1600.

The 24" is over my budget. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks and much appreciated.
