Is overclocking a CPU worth it for gaming?

Hi,
I currently have a i7 8th gen processor running at 1.8Ghz with only an intergrated graphics card. Is it worth overclocking the CPU because for games like fortnite I have to have all of the settings on the lowest or wouldn’t it make a difference?

Not much. It would help you a bunch if you got a dedicated GPU.

Sounds like the i7-8550U

You're more limited by the integrated gpu, but the U series is designed more for low power than outright performance.

You might get a slight improvement if your bios has a configurable tdp setting, otherwise you're kind of stuck with what you have and would have to leverage something like Geforce now

You can't overclock laptops (except for some high end gaming ones).

Does your laptop have a thunderbolt 3 port? If not, you can't use an external GPU.

While this would work it be a pretty poor use of your money. Something tells me a GTX 1070 is going to be throttled pretty hard by a laptop i7 with a 25 watt TDP...
