I bought a new computer a few weeks back, and it broke down last week. From the little I know I figured it was the hard drive gone down.

I sent it back to the shop. He says it's the hard drive and the vga. What's a VGA please anybody????

Also he suggested replacing the SATA with an IDE drive but I was under the impression SATA were better, is that right ??? (something to do with the cooling I thought)

thanx

Video Graphics Adapter. An adapter card which uses processors and memory to process data for display on a monitor. VGA is a circuit board that translates the information in your computer for display on the monitor.

SATA has better trabsfer rates, but ide are cheaper. He has probably had issues installing SATA before and know IDE thus ecourages it. I would go with SATA. Dont you have a warranty?

Thanx for that, pretty much what I thought, yes I have a 3yr warranty but it's a return to base and I have to pay the post costs. Also I got it off an ebay shop and thought that he may have been using recon parts rather than new. But don't you think it's a bit weird both going only after 3 weeks. Or is it that the hard drive going has knocked out the vga ????

I dont think thats possible, 2 totally seperate things.. Well maybe a power surge, but there would be smoke or somthing... The Mobo is ok? Well make sure you write a review online for these people and how their customer service is.

I would be a bit concerned with this guy, sounds as though theres a chance he is not on the up and up. I would definatly replace the SATA HD with another SATA and as for the price the IDE drives are usualy cheaper but the diff. Is so little it usualy is around $10-$20 diff.

Like blue siad I would be a little concern about this guy. I dont know how he can just know that the hard drive and the vga is both not working. It sorta strange if both of those broke down at the same time exacty. It possiable but not usual.

There are usually different signs of a harddrive not working compare to a video card not working. Maybe you can give us detail of exactly what you mean by broke down and we might be able to better tell you what the problem most likly is.

SATA is a better perhaps (although for comparable drives youd be hard pressed to be able to tell) -- its also finicker -- and costs more.

SATA is a subset of ATA spec which includes all IDE connects. :)
