Is Size Important

256mb isnt much these days,Niether is 512Mb.

usualy in new laptops you get a minimum of 1Gb.

you would see a HUGE performance jump if you went from 256Mb to say 1Gb
 
you need to find out how much memory your laptop can take first,But i do think you will notice quite a differance if you add more even though your processor is 1.6Ghz :)
 
my laptop has a 1.7ghz pentium M with a gig of ram, it performs rather well. i'd definately recommend upgrading it will give the computer new life.
 
I had a 1.5GHz VIA chip in my old laptop, I installed 2GB of RAM and it flew.. at least for a laptop.. it came with only 512MB, which was horrible.
 
Yes size is important and for all those who say it doesn't, they just don't know because they never have experienced true size. As for your question, if you only have 256mb of RAM, then yes you need to upgrade that quickly...the more RAM the better in my eyes.
