is the 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7950 GTX really worth 400$ more than the 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS?

I am looking to buy the dell XPS M1710 and cant decide on which graphics card i want. I will being going into game art and design and need somthing that can support maya and other things, at the same time i need it to be good enough for a year from now when i start.

I dont think so, if you're looking for a rendering card you shouldnt be looking at gaming laptops at all, you should be looking at laptops which have either the ATI FireGL or nVidia Quadro line.

But if you want one of those, I dont think it's worth the extra $400.

the 7900GS 256mb got 52.2 and the 7950GT 512mb got 71.5 Which means a 7950GTX is way faster so the fps of an 7950GTX 512mb would be 82.9 fps

Overall the

7950GT 512mb got 1465.2
7900GS 256mb got 1172.9

So the 7950GTX 512mb would probley be
1562.4 so yeas its worth it

What are the major diferences between a game laptop and a rendering laptop?? I had no idea that rendering laptops even exsisted... and if i purchased one what is the price diference, Also would i be able to play games with it still (remeber this is going to be my desktop computers aswell)

A workstation card couldn't play games that well, and they are usually pretty darn expensive.

Anyways, do you really absolutely need a laptop? Rendering things on a laptop is just not a good idea. A workstation PC is really what you need.

And as to the 7950GTX thing, not it's not worth the $400 price difference.

Rendering cards arent bad for gaming, but for the price premium they dont have much to offer when you compare them to the gaming cards int he same price range.

And you can use a gaming card for rendering use, but if you want a high performance rendering laptop, then you shouldnt get a 7900/7950 video card.

I'm 11 years old. I can watch the online tutorials and it seems pretty easy but my parents think I'll get electricuted but I don't blow up the mobo or whatever blows up. So whats your opions:
