So for my new rig, im deciding on a geforce 8800GS or the 9600GT..

Note that I only really play BF2 and will play COD4 single and multiplayer when i get it. Which one would be more worth it, especially budget wise

and also note that I can only play a max reslution of 1024x768 because of my cheap ass monitor and dont see getting a new one for a long time, saying this because I know resolution plays part on what vid card to get.

9600 GT, it will play BF2 on max everything without an issue, as far as COD4 is concerned... I haven't tried maxing the graphics yet but on medium (some on high) it is really smooth.

i am a big fan of the 9600GT, i have great experiences with it, but a lot of people are saying its not good. my recommendation is to go for the 9600GT. ive seen it for quite a bit under $150, and you cant beat that price.

Oh coolio then, its becuase Ive been hearing/reading that the 9 series isnt as stable as the 8, so i need reassurance

yes the 9600GT will be better but they will both max out COD4.
if this video card is going on the rig in your sig it will not fit as they are both PCI-E your board only supports AGP.
an the CPU an Ram will hold it back anyway

no, get 8800GS. it is quicker in the majority of tests, especially at low res. check out some reviews... and not gpureview since that doesn't actually tell you anything.

If you're planning on running one card, take the 8800GS if you're gaming at 1280*1024 (or sometimes 1600*1200). But if you plan on getting a second card somewhere in the future (if you have an SLI board) for an SLI setup then I'd take the 9600GT because they have an average 80% boost in SLI.

Though 8800GS sounds cooler anyway and if I am correct it's cheaper... So just go for one card and take an 8800GS. It performs better in Crysis and Bioshock so somehow that gives me a head up that it will be better at them on somewhat lower settings (not on Very High or High but at very... Medium :p )

When it comes to the settings I usually let the game choose it simply because it'll perform better, unless I go custom. For example in BF2 I could choose higher settings for the terrain or higher settings for the textures..

At first I wanted to get the 8800GT 256MB version but i read that the GS beat it when it came to AA and AF
But yea, thanks guys but for now Ima go for the GS simply because it comes with COD4 :D
