is the C always the first partition and D always the second?

I would like to use the recovery CD Windows XP, to freshly install Windows XP at my laptop. All my documents are in the D and all programs in the C directory.
I would like to have only the C directory newly installed and let the D directory intact.

They give me four options:
1. MS-DOS with CD-ROM support
2. Recover Windows XP_to first partition only
3. Recover Windows XP_to enire HD
4. Recover Windows XP_to entire HD with 2 partitions

I think I have to choose for nr 2, but I'm not sure! Does anyone know?

I would do option 2... and on every Windows rig I've used C is the 1st partition while D is the 2nd.

Option 2 will be the primary. (that would be correct).
