Is the Q9450 that much better??

If you compare prices and performance the Q6600 is a better choice (especially the Q6600 G0) seeing with a little overclock to 2.8Ghz (or maybe a bit higher at 3Ghz) it will outperform the Q9450.

But in terms of overclockability I believe they go at about the same speed at max (3.7 or 3.8Ghz), so if you're going for maximum overclocking the Q9450 will get you a better result in a benchmark being it newer and having more Caché (a whopping 4mb more... :p oehoe )

Coulnd't have said it better. The only problem is, you're merely comparing the CPU speeds. You left out architecture, motherboard compatibility, front side bus speeds, ect... I'd say the Q9450 if you're doing some serious multitasking and overclocking :)

If you put the Q6600 Bus on 333 it runs faster then a Q6600. And ofcourse there are some slight integral changes but surely... The Q6600 saves you 100 dollars and will perform the same by just pushing the clock up a bit. 100 dollars I'd rather spend on... Perhaps saving up for another Videocard... Or perhaps some extra ram or maybe even a water cooler (if you save up some more money)... I'm sure the Q6600 on liquid will do better then some drunk Q9450 :P
