Is the SD card rating confusing?

Why are they making it so confusing? V30, I, U3, Class 10 170Mbps.
If all this is about read and write speed, why can't they just say 170R/50W?

It is because the SD card standard has been around for 21 years. During the 21 years, there has been many updates to keep it relevant.

Think of the WiFi standards (b, g, n, ac, ad, ax, etc...) but like 20 times more updates.

The class value used to be representative of the minimum write performance.

Then they got faster and just named it UHS. I feel like they kept the class rating as people were accustomed to only discerning their purchase against that number.

V30 is a specific video recording value for 'extended capture performance'.
