Is the Seagate Barracuda XT any good?

A buddy of mine said it's optimized for a storage unit, so it's optimized for large file transfers and stuff - and it's subpar in performance when it comes to an OS and small files and such. Is this true?

I like seagate drives. But I would probably go with a Western Digital RE4 drive. Overall its alittle faster. But its more expensive then the XT.

The only factor that comes into play is studio recording. I record at 88.2khz so large files are being written right onto the drive when recording. That WD is a little pricey indeed.
