Is the weak link memory or processor?

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 with a Pentium 4 Processor at 2.53GHz and 768MB of RAM. I recently upgraded the RAM from 256MB to 768MB and it is much faster. Would upgrading the memory to 1GB help the speed anymore or is the processor the weak link? Thanks for your input.

the CPU is rather slow, so upgrading the CPU will be better than going to 1GB of RAM on XP.

Not really, unless you get a higher freq.

Honestly, I'd say both are on the weaker side. It really depends on what you do though. If it's just an email/word processing/internet machine then it's fine. If you are trying to game on it more RAM and a faster CPU would be good (although more RAM should make a difference without you needing a new motherboard)

your processor would be hard to upgrade as you would also have to get a new motherboard, and I am assuming you are using DDR ram so you would also have to upgrade to DDRII ram to work with the motherboard. If you have an IDE hard drive you may also have to upgrade that. It goes on and on and on...

Time for a new machine my friend.... dont waste money on the current one if you must, RAM never hurts and you can OC your CPU.
