I am a little new to computer builds, but have been operating comps for quite some time. As this is my first build I need some proffesional advice. The way I understand it is Windows only recognizes about 3.5 gb of computer ram. Is there any advantage to having 4-2gb bars of memory in my new 32 bit system using Windows 7 Home Premium OS? I am using the system primarily for gaming and video editing.

Here are some other components in my new build:

GIGABYTE GA-H57M-USB3 LGA 1156 Intel H57 HDMI USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Intel Core i5-661 Clarkdale 3.33GHz 4MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 87W Dual-Core Desktop Processor

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS 1.5TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

If your running Windows 7 32 bit. It wont read over 4gb. Then it allocates so much for hardware memory addresses. You end up with less then 4gb. available to the OS, depending on your hardware it can vary. No point in having 8gb.

you really should invest in 64 bit windows to take full advantage of your hardware. dosent windows 7 come with 32 and 64 bit versions?

All packaged retail editions of Windows 7 (except for Home Basic) include both 32- and 64-bit software. I would get a minimum of Professional.
