Is there a need for a "Gaming Mouse"?

Hello all. I've noticed many people on this forum have what could be considered "gaming mice". Is there any benefit to the higher DPI (what is DPI anyway?) mice and other things like that.

I've been using a cheap dell mouse for a while and had no problems with it. Are they more accurate? Especially involving shooters? And is it worth it?
 
I believe DPI refers to dots per inch, it refers to the resolution, the higher the DPI the more accurate the tracking is. Basically the higher the DPI the better the mouse will pick up minuscule movements. Personally I like gaming mice because they generally have a more rugged look and feel, are usually coated with a slip resistant and sweat resistant material, and offer features like multiple customizable buttons, sensitivity switches, and it look cool!
 
as their name implies, they are for gaming. what i like about them, is that you can adjust sensitivity on the fly like for different applications. they are also usually more ergonomic, so hand cramping is minimized. however there are many out there, you just have to find one that fits you best, which can be a pain in the ass and get pretty expensive.
 
If you comprare a Cyborg V.3/V.5 to a Dell mouse you will see the difference.

Cyborg has 3 Modes, perfect fit for the hand, place for your thumb, big scroller etc etc

But your dell...well its just a normal mouse. Sometimes though a cheap normal mouse can work just as well as a gaming mouse.

If your playing games like CSS or PvP games then you might want a gaming mouse, however if your a casual gamer then your Dell is fine!
