Is there a virus that messes up RPC Server?

Hey guys,

Does anybody know of a virus that affects the RPC server, either by corrupting the DLLs or editing the registry? Having this problem with a comp. Thought it was fixed, but it stopped working again. Makes me think it could have been a virus.
 
Yeah, msblaster and sasser worm can do things like that. What have you used to scan your system for infections? You either need to have a patched OS or running a firewall to block from getting the msblaster or sasser worm. If you feel you are still infected, please do the following.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here or here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

If you continue to experience problems after doing this, please post a HijackThis log by doing the following:

Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log

Malwarebytes needs to be updates and reran. Open malwarebytes and click on the update tab, click on check for updates. Keep doing it until it says you have the latest version.

Your version of avg needs to be upgraded. You need to download version 9 from here.

Please upgrade and then repost your logs. Run AVG after upgrading first then malwarebytes but make sure you update it.
 
Hey Johnb.

Would love to update everything, unfortunately, missing the RPC server has taken my internet out on that computer. Do you know of a way to upgrade w/o internet? Would love to know.

I should have said that this is a problem that I've posted to another part of the forum as well, but have recently started trying to fix from a malware standpoint. Here's the other post if you'd like to know a bit more:
