Hi all,

A friend of mine has Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit SP1, and he wants to know if there is a way that you can lock the computer, and only "that" user can log back in, he wants it so his brothers can't go onto the computer when he goes to do something.

He uses the Windows + L, but it has the switch users, and he doesn't want it like that.

Thanks,

Cohen

I'm not sure if it's in vista, but in xp it is. You need to activate the old win2000 login, and problem solved: when you press alt+ctrl+delete a window will appear where you will be asked what to do next. You can select Task Manager, Lock computer, Shutdown and more options.

Are you talking about Fast User Switching?
If so here's how to disable:

  • Click Start, type regedit.exe and press Enter
  • Navigate to the following branch:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ System
  • Create a DWORD (32-bit) Value named HideFastUserSwitching
  • Set the Value data for HideFastUserSwitching to 1
  • Quit the Registry Editor.

Edit: I thought you meant something else, do you want just one User to be able to log on?
This is how I did it on my computer, I don't know if there would be a Difference, I did this on my Windows Vista Ultimate.

Go to Administrative Tools_> Local Security Policy
Then go to the Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options and
on the right side panel find the "Interactive Logon: Do not Display last user
name
