Is there such a thing as a list of NESESSARY componets and a list of OPTIONAL componets when building a new computer. Obiviosly I have never built my own but would like to give it a try. However after reading and reading here for the past few days I have found it sort of confusing as to what I really need vs what I have to have. I am a photographer and need a computer that will allow me to run photoshop while having several different windows open and burn DVD/CD's all at the same time without stalling like my present computer does.. I don't play video games but I do like to play video mpgs from the internet. I have a cable modem.

Would someone here like to spec. out a system for me?

I'm hoping to keep it around $500.00. I think I'm going to continue to use my current CRT monitor untill it gives out, and I want to continue to use my wireless mouse and Wacom tablet. It must be able to upgrade for future growth if nesessary.

Anyone want to give it a go?

Let's see...I need a....
case?
processor?
ram?
motherboard?
cooling fan?
Hard drive?

Thanks for your help!

Do you ever get tired of newbies?

List of neccesary depends on when you ask and what you're building .. for the most part its CPU, powe, mobo, IO, memory .. list of optional is ... long. :)

That makes things hard on a $500 budget because for AMD boxes, you're already screwed out of the box due to the upcoming new platform and for intel boxes 975 rigs arent cheap
