Is this a good budget build?

I have done some research and come up with this list:

Motherboard- GA-MA770T-UD3P 770 ATX

CPU-Athlon II X4 620 quad core

GPU- Radeon HD 4850 1GB

RAM-4GB DDR3 1333

HDD-Western Digital Cavier 640GB SATA/300 7200RPM

DVD Drive- Samsung SH-S223F

Case-Compucase 6920 ATX super

Monitor-Viewsonic VA2231WA 22"

I've checked the prices and I can get all of it for £557.32 inc. P&P and VAT.
I was just wondering if anyone has any other recommendations other than what I've chosen. The maximum I'd probably go is £600.

I can't say I am an expert, but I am learning as I go. One thing you are missing is a PSU. Do you have one? You really need to make sure that you get a quality one, as that can't take out your whole system if you have one that goes bad.
 
oh sorry forgot to mention its a 550 watt psu, it comes with the case. the graphics card requires a 500 watt over and a 6-pin pci slot, which it does.

Please do not use a PSU that comes free with a case,theyre bound to be a piece of crap that will fail and take other components with it!....i would not risk it.

You could bring that price down slightly if you went for the HD4850 instead,But i would recommend against this...the 5770 is newer,DX11 etc.

wow thanks a lot! some great recommendations, i think i'll take your advice about the psu. I saw a 700 watt version of the one you suggested for cheaper, i'll probably overclock the processor and memory so the added power will come in handy. I think i'll stick with the 4850, i don't really want to go over the my budget too much, also i've read loads of reviews saying that it holds up with some of the higher priced cards especially at higher resolutions and power consumption is pretty good. cheers

+1...i was a bit stuck towards the end of my build list when it came for the Cpu because there was not all that much left in his budget,but now hes going for the HD4850 instead that should give him enough for that Phenom :)

Will do, thanks for all your help. I decded to go for the phenom 555, i read its better for games and i can unlock 2 more cores to make it quad core. If i can get it past 4.0ghz with quad core, it should run like a beast
 
looks similar but i really want actually build to whole thing. also I'd prefer to have ddr3 memory instead of ddr2. thanks though
 
I'm changing my list every 5 minutes! Again great suggestions, I'm amazed at how much time and effort you guys put in to just to suggest a few things. Another question I had was since I'm going to overclock the cpu and unlock the 2 extra cores, I'm probably going to need better cpu cooling than the stock. Now I'm no expert on what makes a cooling fan good at cooling, so any suggestions? Again something quite cheap (£40-£50), also is water cooling something to look into?

I'd personally say spend the extra on a quad vs trying to unlock it and getting a heatsink:

I'm looking at this thread to get info on building my own system.

With the Samsung HD103SJ HDD :http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173804 the reviews say that the drive needs to be initialized and formated before use. I assume that if it's a new build then this will happen as part of the Windows 7 installation process? Can anyone confirm that please.

The other thing I was wondering was if there were any cheaper options on the Graphics card as I'll like to spend more on going for a quad core processor.

I'd suggest starting your own thread. But yes, windows 7 formats the drive as part of installation. All drives must be formatted before use.
