is this a good burner?

It's not blu-ray capable but there's nothing wrong with a 20x dvd burner. It's a sata model over seeing the need for any flat ribbon cable if you happen to running sata not ide hard drives.

yeah, im running on satas, i dont really see the need for blue ray right now, im happy with dvs for the time begin,, and for the price i think il get it lol

yea its a good one.. looks good at least, ive never had a problem with lite-on burners that ive bought it should be just fine.

Sony brand drives were being made by Lite-On for some time until more recently where you now see Sony-Nec/Optiarch. In the last several years I haven't run into one bad Sony model.

In fact one old model still sits around here since the old style casing is simply too long and would touch the board unless installed in the top bay. The newer drives since are shorter in length. Other then seeing that one problem they have always quite reliable.

You shouldn't see any problems and may want to pick up a len cleaning kit along the way. It always helps to have one of those onhand especially if you handle any large number of disks and the drive sees a lot of use.

I've used this drive in a friend's rig and it's nice, cheap, and works well.

If you decide against it, go for an LG or Sony.

The prices on optical drives have come down so much in the last few years alone where if you should get a bad drive simply buy another OEM deal cheap and toss the first away! That's after the 15 or 30 return days have passed anyways.
