is this a good enough graphics card ?

What kind of games do you play and what other components do you have? Also, do you have AGP or PCIe?

erm i have not got any other components yet i am just planning my build but i only have a budget of £400 (£500 at a push) and im expecting to have to spend alot of the budget to get a top end graphics card so i thought that should be one of the things in my plan http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?mbb-m38a41&P=1
that is the motherboard i was thinking of going for so any comments on that would also be appreciated

thanks that looks like a good suggestion just checking since i dont no anything about computers that will work with that motherboard ive selected wont it ?

That card will work fine with the board:)

BTW theres also a 8500GT, cheaper than the X1550 you originally picked, and its also DirectX 10, which came out a while ago, meaning you will not have to do any future upgrading to play DX10 games, like you would have to with an X1550.

EDIT:
Heres a quick system I've put together that you might want to consider, everything here is compatible and you also have some headroom for overclocking with the selected components :)

This system would also be much more futureproof than the combo above, plus a lot faster.

Mobo - http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=113965&_LOC=UK

OR http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/119274/rb/27049694747 which is £4 more but C4
GPU - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=576335

All comes to around £260, which leaves you £240 over for other items

Edit: Just found 1GB micron for £36, which would probably get a higher OC than the Geil - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=527001
