Is this a good laptop?

Simple answer: Kinda pricey but Vaio's are generally high quality so "Yes", but "No" if you plan to play recent 3d games on it (fallout 3, other equivalents) and there are better spec'd laptops out there for cheaper.
 
I don't care for Vaios, I feel there overpriced.

They are pricey. Toshiba is the same way.

My Dell Inspiron hasn't been trouble, I've taken good care of it though. Look at those and look at these Asus laptops.

It depends on what you use it for. If it's an email checker and web browser then just buy a netbook with a light Linux distro. If you're working with graphics or multimedia apps then get a Macbook.

I agree, the Dell mini 9 comes with ubuntu and I love it, its faster then my desktop in ways. Plus with ubuntu studio you can do some good video editing with that, or in my case with music recording and editing.
