My dad's getting me a laptop for my graduation and he is only buying a Dell but this is the one he built with a person on the phone.. wanted your opinion before he bought it..

That looks like a pretty nice laptop, since it has the core duo CPU, and 1 gig of RAM, the GPU and the screen look good for a laptop.
 
I would push for C2D and 2gigs of ram for vista...

Also whats the budget? under 1grand thats the best I know of, but after that there is definately better for around 1200-400

I have a Lenovo laptop with Windows Vista Home Basic, which I bought a month ago, but Vista OS is very slow on my laptop and the reason is 512 MB RAM, So I just wanna say that if u are going for Vista, please be sure for 1 Gig or more.

Thats a great laptop, it has a Core (2) Duo @ 1.86Ghz, 1GB DDR2, 256MB ATI x1400, 160GB SATA.

That itself should be at least $1,000. Depending on what else he chose.
 
Looking at the specifications of what's there, its going to seem a bit slow. XP takes up 64mb RAM, but Vista takes up 512mb RAM. That should still be fine for most things, but if you plan to play the latest 3D games and such, the video card is fine, but it only leaves you 512mb RAM, meaning you might have to reduce the play quality. If the company offers it, I'd recommend sticking with XP.

it's a core duo, so its not that great. I just looked and didn't notice the ATI graphics, that laptop's probably worth $750 or a little more with the bluetooth option.

The core duos are great processors why dont you like them? The laptop is worth around $1200 i just added up most of the stuff on the dell website.

The difference between the Core Duo and the Core 2 Duo is barely anything, they perform almost exactly the same.

And if you read his first post, you will see he has an ATI 256MB x1400 video card, which is a great mid-ranged laptop card.

It also has a better video card then yours :D

sry for the confussion, I ment I didn't notice the ATI graphics at first but after you pointed it out, I saw that it did.

Edit: well I just built one on dell for $875 using coupon code QJ4BG867PWHW03. If your going to spend that much on a laptop, why don't you spend the extra $50-$100 to get a C2d. And Omega, why do you keep ragging on my graphics card, I know it sucks in todays world, but I'm not a gamer so I could care less.
