Thanks for the reply and for the link to that thread i was really intimated about building a computer myself but i think i can handle it since it looks easier than Rebuilding a Dirtbike Engine haha and i pick up a new Skill but are all the products you listed Compatible maybe a silly question.

Here's my take on it. Uses an HD5770 rather than a GTS 450(they're about even) to enable CrossfreX. This means you can add a second GPU later on, and run them together like one GPU.

The op must have been thinking around 600, but hasnt actually said so. Perhaps they can go a little more and get a lot more. Esp. with the best shopping days of the year upon us, I wouldn't buy anything till then as the $ will go farther for better components.

This could be enother post but,
Since i have that board in my spec i know it' 2 @ x8. So the benificiary and I know, what improvment will the crossfire have?
Can you equate it to a single card @16?

Any card from a 4870/5770 and down doesn't use anywhere near the bandwidth of a X16 slot. So running C/F with 8/8 slots even with something like a 5850/6850/6870/GTX 460 will only kill a few, around 2 or 3 FPS. But I would not suggest a board with a X4 second slot for someone that wants to run C/F. Its just a gimmick to sell a board. If that upsets some people, oh well.

No, it isn't. A 5870 only loses an average of 5% in an x4 slot. Still only 7% for a GTX 480. A 5770 or equivalent would be perfectly fine in one.

Like I said, if someone doesnt like it, oh well.

Comparing a X16 to a X8, on average with a midrange card and up its a 7% to 8% hit.

Comparing a X16 to a X4, on average with a mid range card and up its a 27% to 30% hit.

The reason for the bigger hit on a X4 slot, the PCIe lanes are pulled of the southbridge, not the northbridge as are the others. They are suppost to be used for the PCIe X1 slots. If you use the X4 slots it disables the PCIe X1 slots on the board. Like I said its a Sales Gimmick.

That test really makes no sense at all.

Think about it.

If a X1 slot only loses 25% to a X16 slot with a 5870. Then a X2 would be equal to a X16, no loss. You double the bandwidth with each lane.

By them if a X1 slot lost 50%, then a X2 slot would be equal to a X16 with a 5870.
 
It's not linear, apparently. Granted, this wasn't crossfire...they literally just taped off the contacts and benchmarked it. Some games did take a bigger hit than others. Good point about it going through the SB, though. I'm going to ask about it on OCN and post what I find out.

Regardless, an OC'd 5770 is faster than a GTS 250, and should be plenty for gaming. Good match for the Athlon.
