This is a HP setup that I can get through costco for just over $1700.00.
Im trying to get a decent gaming computer that will work for basic home/school needs as well. Thanks for any info.

No, for $1700 those specs are not competitive with the caliber of computer you could build yourself. A generic 460W PSU, a 460 GPU, and even the i7-930 (vs.950 or Sandybridge)... you can do much better by building. And 16 GB of 1066 RAM is silly... yeah... you should build.

If it's primarily a gaming rig, an i7-760 will do you as well as a 950, although 950's are available at Microcenter for $250 after tax. The RAM isn't blazing fast as 1600 RAM goes, but if you're not overclocking I'm not sure that that makes any difference. That 570 will Own a 460 for gaming and the PSU and board will let you add a 2nd one if you ever needed it, which you won't for a long time if you're on a single monitor. The prices don't include about $100 worth of rebates which would get you down to about $1100 with a box that'd wipe the floor, gaming wise, with the Rig you listed in the original post. If you didn't expect to run multiple Gfx cards you could downgrade the MoBo and PSU and probably knock off another $100 to be right around $1000 before looking for sales or combo deals.

You don't mention overclocking so the build was made with stock in mind, and those components will Fly at stock, but better Ram and a decent cooler would add maybe $100.

You'd still maybe need a mouse, keyboard, LAN card, and Card Reader but even with those you're Well under $1700.

If you're heart is set on a 950, basically add $50. All of this was done fairly quick without looking for combo's or sales, and an i5-2500k may be the better way to go once they are realeased in 2 weeks, but at least there's some idea of how much better you can do for your money if you were to build.
