Is this a good setup ?

Ahh, the pic said dual core.

Wow, it does. I just noticed that! I thought the i5s were quad cores...

So the manufacture doesnt even know whats in it! :D Typical though.

Im just curious as to why Intel went with the naming the way they did. Instead of i2, i4, i6. Why i3, i5, i7? Makes no sense.

All desktop i5s are quad-core these days. It was only the first generation which had some dual-cores. The i5 6xx chips were dual-core and the i5 750 and 760 were quad-cores. I had a 760 for a while.

Epically faster, all you need and only 802.98 quid. Of course without a monitor (screen lol) or keyboard and mouse... but really, its false economics. Add those extra and you'll be very happy. If you must keep it in the 800 quid budget then get a 3rd gen i5 (e.g. 2500k) and a GTX 650Ti. That'll free up 200 quid. But, will be significantly worse on the GPU side. It will however be better than the deal you posted - by far.

If it were me, id get the cheapest keyboard and mouse deal you can find, and a monitor form ebay or your local version of 'craigs list' second hand. Much rather the above components and skimp on the peripherals. Later you can save up for better peripherals, and your machine will still be great.

If this is to be a gaming machine, the display is one of the LAST things I would skimp on. In fact, I would probably put the display above the GPU in terms of importance for gaming. Because having the best GPU in the world hooked up to a 90s rounded tube at 480p is going to look like crap no matter what.

Even my $200 Vizio looks light years better than the 17inch Viewsonic CRT I had. And my Vizio doesnt even look that great compared to other monitors/TV especially since its limited to 60hz.

I would get rid of the aftermarket cooler and get a slightly lower end CPU and use that for a good monitor.

Omg there you go again, epic assumptions and nonsense.

Ok, lets see, all i said was, get a 2nd hand monitor, they're cheap.

Lets see, a 20 second ebay search, 20 quid a 1440 x 900 monitor, completely fine.

However im pretty sure the OP has a monitor already.. i was just working off the advert, that said "choose any screen"

So yeah, i doubt itll be an issue.

There are low power ones that are dual core with HT. The i5-4570T for example. But I guarantee the 4430 is a true quad :)

And while I agree that a good monitor is nice, I would rather have a $150 monitor and $400 GPU than a $250 monitor and $300 GPU

Its personal preference.... And whats the point of having a 780 or 2 if your on a crap display?

All I said was replace the aftermarket cooler which you dont need at the time at all and go with something more like a 2500k and get something like this thats full HD:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824116580

Obviously thats not a UK site, I dont know any UK PC sites but that should still be in the price range after converting.

If the OP is fine with gaming on a display from the stone age then fine. I wouldnt see much use for a high end GPU with that, but whatever. Im gaming on a display from the stone age and I enjoy it tons, however at least mine is still HD.
