This is a long story so get comfortable!!!
Here is the deal. I bought my computer almost 3 yrs ago w\ 3yr part 5yr service warranty. That is all good, So I thought!?! Well everything was fine. I install 2 OS's on 2 different Partitions 2 yrs ago all was running fine until 4 months ago. My CD Burner was not operating correctly. When a CD was in it it would open every time! But when it didnt have a CD in it, it was almost imposible to open. I had to keep on hitting the eject button over and over to get it to open. Simple problem simple solution, Unistall the Drivers Change the burner out! which is what the computer store I bought it from supposedly did, Well replace the CD burner anyway. I get it back, With this New CD burner. Sounds Great. Well Time to test it out. I tried to burn 6 different CDs. Nero said it burned them and the light in the CD Burner was blinking. So far so good. After it gets done I try to explore the CD to find nothing there all 6 times. So I sent it back to them. They tell me that the spy ware is the reason for this. WHATEVER!!!! So they send it back to me and I got this CD from my DAD that he had Burned with NERO!!! the same exact version I have on my computer. It comes up with an ERROR "Cannot read from E:" So I try to burn a CD, Still no luck 7 times. I am upset. Calling them up I rip them up and down to fix this thing. Well They decided that the CD burner is bad, So again, they change it out. Great!!! So the put the same brand CD burner in that it originally came with. Now is where it gets a little bit confusing. I get it and burning CD's is no problem. I put in Velvet Revolver to copy it. My computer crashed. Starts back up with a device error. So Here we go again back to the shop. So they tell me that I have to format my drive because they cant figure it out. They say, "hey we want to format your computer to see if maybe that will help". No!!! To much stuff to loose!!! I told them. One CD is not that important to me I will deal with out that CD. So I get it home.But before I sent it to them, Other than the CD Crashing my system it worked great. Slow on start up had alot of start up programs but that is cool. Not bad to deal with. Once everything was loaded ran great. Start up my computer and imediatly it starts to install my printer again. Well low and behold, It fails to install automatically. "Cannot find and install file". So I unistall it locate all the files related to my printer and the drivers and unistall then delete every thing. Restart my computer. Same thing occured. Repeated uninstalling and deleting. Installed it by disk. Same D**n thing. Well I decided it works on My other OS everthing is cool. I can deal with it. So I go to work and come home the computer is on and running like it was. I go to bed and wake up and go to play on the computer. It is shut off? I normally leave my computer on. try to start it all the lights come on but the monitor stays on stand by. So I am thinking my computer is fried. But then I decide to put in my XP win CD just to see what happen. It starts up. So I figure that I need to Back up my files and format it. What Other Choice do I have? Go to burn a CD, put a brand new, just out of the package, Blank, cd in. It doesnt pull up the options like usual "OPEN WITH" menu. That is okay. Go to my computer click on drive e:, My CD burner. "E:cannot read from sorce" Put 3 more brand new, just out of the package, Blank, cd in. Same thing. Lucky me I have 2 seperate Hard drives I can still back up my files!!! But I was just wondering, Has anyone heard of a virus that is attacking divice drivers and causing problems like this? If so what is it called and is there a way to fix it without f/disk and formating it? Or do you think that it is just stupid people who shouldnt be around a computer? Me personaly think it is the second choice. Sorry this is so long but I figured you could not understand My complete confusion and frustration with out the 4 month story.
