i was wondering what people could tell me about this notebook...having never owned a notebook before, any and all feedback is welcome...

some of the specs...
Compaq Presario Notebook PC - Intel Celeron M Processor 330
1.4 GHz
RAM - 512 MB 266 MHz DDR SDRAM
40 GB
DVD-ROM/CD-RW
802.11g

it appears this could cost me only about $550...is this a worthwhile deal?

Thanks!

For $550 it's not bad i don't think. Just don't expect it to be lightning fast.

The Celeron itself was a slow processor IMO, and 1.4GHz is 100MHz under the newest gaming standards. But for most apps anything over 1.2GHz should run good i think. Something good though is it has a full 512MB of RAM, that should keep it running smooth without drastic lag or anything.

If you are in need of a laptop and can't spend much, that should be fine as long as it's in good condition.

agreed with 4w4k3
id only get it if i desperately needed a laptop

otherwise id save up and buy a better one
for 2x that price you could get imo more than double the performance

I'd ask for a bit more cpu preformance if I were you. I have a TravelMate 242LC with 2.4 and it only just manages to keep up with daily tasks.
