Hello. I have a serious offer for someone to buy my laptop for around 375. I am looking at a desktop mainly useable for gaming. i also have a 2nd gen 16 gig ipod touch that could give me a extra 225 to spend as well. here are a couple computers i am considering:

1) http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/sys/1210449766.html - $400
-great video card, xp pro is a plus, fast processor, no keybord, mouse or monitor

2) http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/sys/1216139260.html - 300
-comes with monitor. only thing doesn't have hard drive or os. i guess i could put my 750 gig extenal in there and put my copy of xp pro on it or download windows 7 or whatever its called

3) http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/sys/1210975671.html - $250
-decent coumputer. would prolly have to upgrade the video card. can do that with the extra 100 from my laptop

4) [email protected] - $400

I'm kinda leaning towards the 4th option. If I go with the 3rd option then I would have some extra cash to do some upgrading. What are you're guys' thoughts?

Thanks for the input, Jon

4th option is an email... Of the ones i can see id say option 2, as it has the best psu/gpu/case of the bunch, plus good speakers. You still able to grab the athlon X2 6000 that you were offered with the 9400gt? That would be a great one if you can still get it, just needs a gpu upgrade. FYI the first one, the 9500gt is a pretty low end card. Of those listed the 8800gts in the second one has the best GPU.

well no, i am not trading my laptop. i have an offer from someone who wants to buy it for 350. I was hoping to get a little more than that. He wouldn't budge. The laptop I have is a toshiba satellite a205-s5804. I was asking in the 380 range. Should I take the offer or wait and see if something else better comes along?

Id just tell him something like "I got offered $400, if you want it for $380 ill sell it to you since you offered on it first, if not ill just sell it to the other guy" if he wont budge, fine another buyer.

I would have to go with the second one as well. In all cases, you're most likely going to have to upgrade the power supply and the video card if you want to play any decent games. You might as well look for the one that has the fastest processor and just upgrade everything else.

The second one has a great psu, FSP is one of the larger power supply makers out there, make the units for zalman and ocz too.

Oh wow I didn't even see that. I was just looking at the CPU and RAM combos. Well if I were you I would definitely look into getting a better video card. Don't let the name fool you, it's worse than a GT.

Ehhhh . . . well I would still go for something better. I mean it is pretty good, but it's old. You could get something a lot nicer for not a whole lot of money.

Thats up to the OP whether it performs as well as he'd life, of all the cards listed an any of the systems, this obliterates the others.

So which is better anyway? And old 8800GTS or a 9600GT? I know there's a better-than-GT GTS and there's a worse-than-GT GTS. So how much worse is the old 8800GTS than the 8800GT anyway? Is it on par with the 9600GT, better, or worse?

To the OP: I'd take the second one... you'll probably want to upgrade the monitor, but it's not bad all things considered. You could build one though.

The old 8800gts was actually pretty similar in performance to the 8800gt(just below it in most benches). Plus the extra bit of memory helps, and the fact that it has more memory bandwidth:

8800gts is definately better than a 95/9600gt though.
