what are you going to be doing with it? Quad cores are mostly for video editing and encoding or CAD jobs. A faster dually would help gaming more than a quad would. Though you never know, a quad could future-proof your system in case a lot of games take advantage of it. Alan Wake (future pc game) looks to be the first pioneer into utilizing the potential of 4 cores.

I was also looking at the Core 2 Duo 3.0 Ghz also.

Although I plan on playing future games it isn't the most important part of this computer, it's a family computer so there probably won't be any major editing tools used. As long as I can play games that come out like Farcry 2, I'll be happy. Maybe I'll save the money and switch to Core 2 Duo like you said.

Well then I would recommend the E8400 Wolfdale CPU, its a great dually and a little bit less than a Q6600.

Personally, I have nothing against them (as I've never had a problem), but PC stores keep telling me that Hitatchi drives are of less quality than Seagates and WD's (probably just trying to get a little bit more money out of me though!) If you have the extra money (not much), I'd always recommend a Seagate or a Western Digital, simply because I've had loads and never had an issue (touching a wooden desk).

I have Vista for it already and although there is an option to have it built for me, I decided to build it with my friend. I think it'll be cool to learn how to assemble a computer(I'm an electrical engineer)
