hi,,im not too computer savvy

byt just bought a used hp pavillion a1710n desktop

has 1 gig on it and maxes out a 4 gigs
so want to purchase 3 more gigs

saw this one on special

Kingston 1024MB PC5400 DDR2 667MHz Memory (is this correct memory to add)

really appreciated

response

not sure what that means
but also
it is amd dual-core 4200
if that helps

so looking for 1 gig memory...

you asked

"Kingston 1024MB PC5400 DDR2 667MHz Memory (is this correct memory to add)"

no, notice the 667mhz? that is to high for your mobo, yours runs 533mhz so you would be paying for a speed that you cant use...

can you not identify the stick of ram that is already in? that means you could purchase identicle sticks so you are not running mixed sticks

response

they have a special for 14.99 for 1 gig
- so would it hurt the computer if still got the faster one..thanks
but also would it fit the slots in the computer
thanks

they will fit the slot as all ddr2 ram is same, i have heard they will work but i have not tried it before!

all i could suggest is buying 1gig 1st and try that stick in by itself and see if it boots up etc, then i would buy another 3gig of the same ram if it works

appreciate the input

here are the specs for my comuter

Operating system installed
Genuine Windows Vista™ Home Premium

Upgradability
Windows Vista Capable PC

Chipset
GeForce 6150 LE/nForce 430

Standard memory
1024MB

Memory type
DDR2-SDRAM

Memory slots
4 DIMM (240-pin, DDR2) (two available)

Where did you find that? I'm assuming you mean 533 (as that's what PC4200 is ;)) but still, Athlon 64 X2s will take any speed up to DDR2-800 http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/con...s/Athlon_64_Unbuffered_DDR2_DIMM_06_10_08.pdf

googled the model of his computer and that is the spec of his ram module already in use-

like i say, try one stick of the faster ram, if it works buy another 3sticks so you have 4gig of the exact ram spec

you spotted my mistake, but i did put in my 1st response 533mhz so there :)

Ah. I googled his system as well and HP would only say that it had 1GB of RAM installed.

The 667's will not work in your machine like the others had said. I would not put them in. In less you have money for possible new motherboard if you mess this one up by putting in wrong size. Here is the size that you need "1GB DDR2-533 (PC2-4200)".

Why not? The interface for all DDR2 is the same and the memory controller is on the CPU which, as I linked before, is more than happy to run DDR2-667 or DDR2-800. Also, 667 is not the size, that would be 1GB (or possibly DDR2, depending on how you interpret size). Any DDR2 stick will fit in the socket.
