A freind of mine claimed he was on the verge of building a new super computer and has been bragging for ages about how its gonna have an 8Ghz CPU (!), 24Gb of RAM (!!) and 4x NVidia 7800GTX 512mb(!!!). Sounds like serious bs to me but he won't shut up about it so i figured i better settle it once and for all. Is this possible?

They do have quad SLI, and I've heard of machines with 32gigs of RAM, but I seriously doubt he could afford such a machine. As for the 8GHz, he's totally full of it.

Maybe possible that he overclocked to 8 GHz by extremely overclocking like -200 °C cooling?

and the ones that i said yes to.... the cost will be absoultely astronomical, and you wouldnt be able to get the chips/boards etc from normal places, you would have to have them made up especially for your needs, seriously out of a teenagers league....

The closest to 8GHz ive seen is 7.2-7.3 ona S478 chip which, last time i checked, was not SLI capable. Regardless, people who have 8GHz boxes dont need to brag

quad sli isnt even out(thats probably y 34rd said "possibly in the future"), only DELL and nVidia did it at CES(thats y it was a big thing)....and that gigabyte motherboard isnt quad sli. its like sli sli...4 cards, 2 sets of 2 cards sli'ed together. plus, the video card had to be quad sli compatible which their are none in the market as of now. also notice it says SLI Quad not Quad SLI

Ok...I confronted him with indisputable evidence that he is lying and his exact words were "what are you talking about? I never said that! Thats a lie!! Shut up!!!" or something like that. He has now admitted that he exaggerated the specs and has now said, get this, that he is in fact building a server FOR GAMING! Seriously, thats what he said. A bloody server and he wants to use it for gaming! He even told me that he had ordered the parts for it and was waiting for them to be delivered. Just to top it off when i inquired "what games will you be playing?" he replied "X3:Reunion". I doubt greatly that anyone alive is retarded enough to fork out thousands for a pc just to play one really crap game. But i digress. I've given him a url for this page so i'm just waiting to see the look on his face tommorow
