so my friend wants to upgrade his graphics card so he can play final fantasy 14. the specs for the game say he needs an 8800gt 512 mb or better. as well as a core 2 duo running at 2.4Ghz. right now he has an 8600 gt 256 mb card, and a pentium D 2.8 Ghz. would it be fair to take his 8600 gt, plus $60 and give hime an 8800gt 512 mb? and will the pentium d 2.8Ghz be sufficient for the game since it runs 400Mhz faster than the core 2 thats required?...thanks for the input

The Pentium D will not suffice... it's a dual core pentium 4.

but it this way, a pentiumd at 3.2ghz is equal to a core 2 duoa t 2.2ghz... your friend will benefit from a new CPU more than anything else.

Also whata re the rest of his system specs? RAM and other things.

the rest of his specs would be a gateway motherboard, socket 775, which im pretty sure it wont support a core 2, but could be wron. 2 gigs of ram, which the specs for final fantasy says is recomeded, an antec psu, not sure about the total watts, but it has 2x12v rails with 17a on one and 16 on the other. i already sold it to him, and hopefuly he'll be happy when the game comes out. he may not be able to play on the highest settings, but maybe medium?...if you want nice graphics, you gotta spend the coin. i could always upgrade him to an am2+ board and a athlon II x2 240 for $125-150, and throw in another 2 gigs of ram.

yah that seems liike a fair deal to me. 60$, and the 8600gt goes for about 30$ so 90, seems fine w/ me.
