My GF has the same computer. It's decent. Single core processor, and only 1 GB of RAM are it's short falls. My Acer has a dual core processor, and 2GB of RAM. Much better performance. Upgrade her to 2 GB of RAM and she's be good.

Avoid Celeron, it just too crippled for even office use. These days you need a dual-core CPU at minimum.

Acer is a good brand

Though the specs of the laptop you indicated is kinda old still it's fine man. But if you really would like to have a pump up performance of the laptop but still would go with the Acer brand go here to check it out -> http://www.onsalenow.ie/?p=s&sch=details&store=67&prod=182814

Here's the specs of the Acer laptop on the link that I provided:

ACER Aspire 6930G-594G64MN – Specifications
2,2 GHz Intel Pentium Core 2 Duo T5900
4 GB memory
640 GB(2x 320GB)HDD
Windows Vista Home Premium
802.11b/g-WLAN
16 inch screen
GeForce® 9600M-GS 512MB
DVD burner

why should i run xp on it instead of vista?
it has vista home premium on it at the moment.
Don't worry about it. Vista is fine, and it will run even faster if you
get more RAM for it.

XP is just a bit "lighter" for older systems, but it's also not as efficient.

i agree but most my friends somehow like XP a lot better than Vista for some apparent reason. Right now im on my own pc which has XP at the moment but my sisters laptop has vista on it (this topic is about my sisters laptop btw!)

so yeh im starting to like vista a lot more now.

It's probably because when Vista first came out it had a lot of issues with
compatibility and other issues.

It's all been sorted now and it works perfectly. Besides, you can't really say
you don't like something if you've never tried it for any length of time right?

Most people that don't like it, only say so because they heard it was bad.
I speak from experience, as I used to hate it too, but that was before I tried it.

Mate, that is so true!!!
People have to actually use something for a long time period to actually see the difference of it the first time they use it.
Exactly true!
But people know their likes and dislikes :D

True, but some people will also believe something that is
told to them, even without finding out for themselves.

I think that's what happened to the legacy of Vista. :p

True aswell! , but once you tell them something and they check it out and they experience that something is slow for them e.g. vista then they may not want to try vista out again.
so even if they buy a brand new computer and they have windows xp installed already and someone offers them vista home premium or any kind of vista, they will just say no i tried it before, too slow!

- they dont know unless they try it on their new computer to see better performance. :D
- a lot of people say vista is slow, it depends on the hard ware. ;)

It does depend on the hardware, but hey, I've seen some laggin @ss XP machines too.

Put it this way:
If your computer is slow running Vista, it's probably time for an upgrade anyway. :D
