Is this LCD vista compatible?

The update process simply saw the correct driver installed. If you look in the DM under "monitors" you should see the actual model number seen listed there.

It's just like with any other hardware like video and sound cards, onboard options, tv tuner, and other devices one way or another Windows will continue to look for drivers on everything. Once they are on any prompting for them simply stops.

Now that lcds are far more commonly used and Vista is out seeing the longest delay in the next version of Windows the MS auto search has seen an improvement as well. When going to use the first lcd here you had to manually see drivers installed on XP back some 5yrs. ago. The 15" Proview lcd simply replaced a 15" crt but mandated a driver disk then.

Later when going for a 17" BenQ lcd now retired the optional updates would include those. You can get by without them at first since WIndows does have generic drivers onhand. You'll likely see them on without ever noticing them as part of the updates with that set to auto there.

Wait my Samsung Syncmaster uses drivers... (recent update mater fact).. and the update blended ni with Nvidia and it allowed my driver to blend Nview... and from there on i can control all my LCD's screen from my desktop, like color temp, autofix, everything...

When you go to adjust refresh rates you'll find out fast seeing both video adapter and monitor working insync with each other for the most part. At this point the newer models are more easily termed "plug'n'play" since they have been out for several years now.

With the first ones you were virtually mandated to see drivers installed especially with the older versions of Windows. For XP's SP2 and now with Vista the wider support for newer lcds is present while a typical widescreen lcd 19" or larger will see 1280x1024 until you have both video adapter and monitor drivers inplace. From there you can see the 1440x900 and higher resolutions.

Every piece of hardware requires a driver! Just search around in Device manager and look at the properties of everything and there will be a tab that says "driver".

And when I click "Driver Details" for my monitor, it comes up with a message that says "No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device". And memory is hardware, too, but I didn't have to download drivers for my DDR-400 sticks... and my PSU works perfectly without any drivers as well.

Anyway, what would be the point of having drivers for monitors?
