I have recently got my hands in a sapphire radeon x1300 but i want to buy a 19" widescreen monitor. Am i right in thinking thst they dont wokr together or is there a way of getting the card to work on the right resolution of 1440 x 900 (hope thats right)?

That's 1440x1050 at 32bit there. And that isn't the highest you can go. It's just that games go upto 1280x1024 to see the max there while you can set the resolution for the monitor alone as high as 2560x1600 and still have 32bit.

Im pretty sure it would work.. since the x1300 can go up to a much higher resolution, and display resolutions are usually softwarc controlled :) so if windows doesnt already support that resolution, there would be a CD with the monitor so it would. (but i think it would support the resolution, as the monitor will tell windows what resolutions it can take with its hardware profile :)

I'm pretty sure you can play CSS at 1440X1050, and I also played it at 1600X1200.

HL2, EP1, and CS:Source are pretty 1280x1024 max type games there. Some of the newest games released may have the higher support. A good number of the older ones only made it as far as 1024x768. To run above the 1280x1024 you would probably have to consider lowering details down for each step higher with those.
