Is this PSU good enough...

As for your PSU having enough power to handle a GTX 460, well the combined +12v power is not visible on the sticker and I don't know the rail distribution. You can try it if you want... with that dual 4-pin molex to 6-pin PCI-E.

The Raidmax is probably junk as always, the corsair would be my choice. However it doesn't have enough connectors.

You'll need 4xPCI-E 6 pin connecters for 2xGTX 460's. Both powersupplies only have one 6 pin and one 6+2 pin.

You'll need something in the 600w-800w range for the right amount of connectors. Get a modular one if you wish. helps if your case doesn't have good cable magament

It isn't that Corsair are overkill, more over rated. They make good power supplies, or rather they put their name on good power supplies (with the exception of some in the more recent lines), but they aren't leagues ahead of other good brands. You pay to have their name on the unit, rather than because they offer far superior quality

Would be a very very good unit, much better than the raidmax or corsair that you posted, yet after MIR is the same price as the raidmax unit

That does seem like a nice PSU, but I still trust Seasonic a bit more. It looks epic, though. :D

This is probably like 80% on topic... if you're asking 'is it good enough' because you're afraid to spend a few extra dollars on a PSU, just put the extra money in. It's universally acceptable to splurge a bit on a PSU (not like wattage, but for warranty, efficiency, quality, etc...)

That one doesn't have enough PCIe connectors, sadly. :( IMO the 650w Seasonic I posted is still a good deal. It gets the same 80 plus Bronze rating as the XFX, and is probably a bit better quality. The ridiculously high-quality Seasonic gets a gold.

Both are made by seasonic, both have the same 5 year warranty, both are high quality, both are 650W. The only thing that could push it in the Seasonic unit's favour, is if OP doesn't have the extra initial money to order the XFX unit, but if he/she does, then after MIR the XFX unit works out $10 cheaper, so would be in the better choice

I guess in that case they're probably almost the same PSU, but if it was me I'd rather pay $10 more upfront and not half to deal with a rebate. I'd also still trust the fan, casing, etc. more if it were straight Seasonic.

The Corsair TX units were Seasonic, and you would trust them the same as a SeaSonic unit, right? Just because it is Corsair and people say they are the best of the best and no matter what can't be beaten, even when it is proven that they can and are by quite a good few other units

XFX don't make bad units, they don't make units, but the fans and casing aren't low quality, you aren't going to see the internals being the sort of quality you expect of SeaSonic, then the fan and casing being utter crap, they don't work like that, the fan and casing will be the sort of quality that you expect from XFX, which is very good

fan keeps clicking. bought it 2 months ago, at first it clicked every once in awhile then would go away but now its clicking non stop.

Now it's seven days later and the fan rattles, great. Droping this one to two eggs for the fan. Going back to Corsair. The fan in this unit is the only thing wrong with it. Use better fans XFX.

*****POOR Quality****
Soon after powering the system up, just like another reviewer here mentioned, I start hearing a very distinct clicking noise from the so called "silent fan". This is clearly heard over everything in my system. It also makes a humming/buzzing transistor noise that varies with load.

Some sad shoppers on Newegg don't seem to like the fan on the XFX.

For OP, the link to the Seasonic: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...91&cm_re=Seasonic_650w-_-17-151-091-_-Product

Think about how many of those units they produce and sell. Even if there were a hundred people on there all saying " the fan isn't working right" it isn't a large enough sample to justify saying the fan or any other part is deffective. The fact that people still regard XFX units as very very high quality is evidence enough that the sort of problems flagged up by newegg reviews (which aren't reliable sources for whether a product is high quality or not, because most of the people leaving comments are complete morons when it comes to computers) aren't common at all

Buying an XFX PSU isn't like buying an Athena Power on Logisys piece of junk. I'll agree that they're obviously pretty high on the quality list. I just couldn't justify a $10 differential for having to deal with a rebate AND running the risk of a defective fan. I'd rather just get a Seasonic knowing that pretty much nothing they assign to their own brand will be DOA. Yes, I'm sure that either of us could fix the fan easily, but why bother? Also, it seems like a good amount of those PSUs have a defective fan. The fact that there are at least 4-5 people saying that there's a defective fan means that it's not just 1 stupid guy on Newegg who couldn't figure out that his Core i5 didn't have an onboard GPU.

You just pointed out exactly what I was getting at, 4 people doesn't even get close to a large sample when you think that thousands of these units are produced/sold

And it is things like the fan issue for which it has a 5 year warranty. It isn't supposed to have a clicking fan, and it isn't supposed to have any other problem, if it does, you have your warranty there. It is a small minority that have the fan issue, just like it is a small minority that get DOA CPUs, memory that causes BSODs, video cards that have artifacts/don't show images, hard drives that click etc. It isn't like SeaSonic, or any other manufacturer for that matter, has bullet proof products, some have design flaws or just random problems, and the good ones acknowledge this and provide a decent warranty.

And it is also that page that points out how trustworthy the reviews are on newegg:

From someone with apparently a 3/5 tech rating, they, in their own mind, know a good few things about computers, and at least the basics of how to build them:

Cons: Does not fit in Dell Dimension E510

Yet can't measure a case, or know that 7.4" is less than 7.87", and feels that it isn't their fault that they failed to measure the case in advance, it is a flaw with the product so severe, that it deserves only a 3/5 rating

See I may be a little biased here in that I'm not tight with money, but am not well off, so always been brought up to be careful with money and get the most out of every penny, because we need every penny, so $10 to me is worth spending time and extra effort over. I absolutely see where you are coming from when you say it isn't worth it, but OP may be like me and want to save that money, even if it means extra hassle, for whaetver reason, and like he said in the first post, he wants other options. Either unit would be a very good buy, but the fan "issue" on the XFX unit isn't, so shouldn't be shown to be an issue if it isn't

I can agree on that. DEBATE RESOLUTION! :D

this is a rare occurrence on CF.....
