I have it mounted in my case so that when you open the side, you can read the specs right side up, but the fan is on the bottom of the psu that way, should the fan be on top? there's not much able room for air flow at top of case...thanks for your help.

The fan is always seen on the bottom when the supply is mounted at the top rear of a case. The fan there is the intake needed to keep the temps down on the supply itself as well as help force heated through the exhaust fan at the back of the supply.
