Is this some type of virus?

whats up,
new to the forum...
first post...
I have a question for you guys...
I first noticed that my screen saver wasn't staying on. Then I noticed that on the bottom bar that displays open windows, a window, that I do not myself have open, would flash on for just a second. There is no writing on it, I can just catch a glimpse of a white rectangle no words. This happens every 15 minutes. I thought that maybe one of programs kept updating. But I have never had a screen saver stop due to an update. also just tonight for the first time an about:blank window popped up.. and I read the posts on about:blank but I have no other problems such as homepage etc.. do I not have that virus... or is my antivirus protection simply taking care of that part of the problem? also I recently noticed that a very small strip on my screen gets kind of squigally (sp)... maybe this nothing or my imagination.. or something totally unrelated.. thought i'd mention it... also
I have norton antivirus and personal firewall 2006... and there appear to not be any virus... so what do you guys think?

Open up hijackthis do a system scan only and check these entries!
Fix them and reboot computer and post new log!

Realsched.exe is an update program for RealPlayer.

If your ever unsure on a running process, just type it in to google.
 
alright.. i did that.. here is the new one.. it's still popping up at 15min intervals.. the internet does seem to be loading a bit slower...

yeah i had looked it up and did realize it was an update.. but thought that maybe it behaved differently or was not functioning properly.. i wasn't sure but i thought that when i was systematically temporarily taking things off of startup "it" didn't seem to pop up.. wasn't sure though.. any ideas...

Your log is clean...what kind of popups are you getting? Take a screen shot of one and post it!

PS: Disable realplayer on your startup list there is no reason for it to run all the time.
 
only one time did i get an actual window open up and on the top the description said " about:blank "... but just the once.. that at the time made me think that it was associated with that about:blank virus.. maybe not.. the thing that keeps happening every 15min is just on the bottom bar.. the bar that usually indicates what window is open.. it will flash down there for just a second .. no actual window opens up.. and there is a small icon of a blank window on it.. nothing else... so no actual window to capture.. what do you think that this could be..

btw.. what is the best way to disable a program from startup.. i tried one way and my computer popped a window up later indicating that i should go back to a normal startup.. what i did was run> msconfig>startup.. and checked the program... is this what you would suggest or another way..

run> msconfig>startup is the best way to disable something in the startup menue, you uncheck what programs you dont want to start. The only thing I can think of about the icon of a blank window is something is updating, my guess would probably be something like windows media player or real player or something so make sure those two are unchecked in your startup list, they dont need to run everytime you turn on your computer...if you uncheck something that windows need to run, like windows program the computer will tell you that you should go back to a normal startup!
 
ok i'll try that.. but an update shouldn't be every 15min nor turn off my screen saver everytime it updates should it.. kind of makes it hard for my computer to go into sleep mode at night.. also in the startup, there is one item that has no description... is that unusual...
 
I realy dont know...it might be somekind of hardware issue or driver problem, the only thing I can tell you for sure is you dont have spyware.
