It doesn't. All ccleaner does is remove temporary internet/system files, cookies, history, etc. if you have it set to delete those files.

when clicking the freeware option of ccleaner, you are redirected to filehippo and offered the download from that site as a mirror. if the ccleaner is installed .. all updates (for the freeware version) are redirected from the piriform site as above.

Not sure what you are talking about here but all you need to do is download it from the program maker to get the legit download site such as piriform. There are many places online to get the actual program.

piriform web site offers a direct download, its been a long time since my first downloaded. its just the updates within the installed program that redirects users to the hippo site.

I just opened Ccleaner and clicked on check for updates and it took me directly to piriform.

I agree. i don't see any point in going to piriform when prompted for an update.

If you use the choco package manager to install stuff, Ccleaner is on there. You can be sure the link is a legit one as someone would quickly flag it up if it wasn't
