IS this true?

I must be missing something, the majority of the desktop computers run Athlon XP, Vista, according to the list, does not support this CPU.

Doesn't the AMD Sempron™ Processor have 64 bit capabilities?

Your living in the past, no new computers have Athlon XP's.

No, i know most have AMD Sempron, or Athlon 64 but can you confirm that i will need to upgrade my XP barton 3000+ to a Sempron or Athlon 64?

ALot of people over here are giving me diffrent answers. PC World told me that it should be fine then microsoft tec guy said 64bit then I find this page.

You could try running vista on it...just download the beta version and see if it works. However, it is highly recommend that you upgrade.

i think home basic works with 32 bit. the other versions are 64bit. but im not really sure. check the vista homepage. it should tell you

If i'm not mistaken the Socket A semprons were not 64 bit but all of the Socket 754 semprons were. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

i have vista beta 2 installed on my 32 bit pentium 4 HT (the full Aero version) and it works flawlessly, you dont need a 64bit processor to get the full experience;)

OK, let's clear this up

No socket A semprons are 64-bit
The skt754 Palermo E6 semprons are 64-bit
The skt754 Palermo E3 and Oakville semprons are not 64-bit
All AM2 semprons are 64-bit

but it does say amd sempron, so i think that the 32 bits will run, just not be able to utilize all the features, im not sure im upgrading to a 64 so it doesnt matter to me

You for sure do not need a 64bit CPU, There are two versins of vista a 32 bit and a 64bit.

Here is the rewuirments for vista

I think a AthlonXP would work fine.

I think you'd be ok with the processor you have, but I would think you'd want to upgrade just to be on the safe side.

I know my machine will run vista great!
