Is this worth it? asus k8n-dl

Hi gang.

Someone in my area is selling a: asus k8n-dl Motherboard brand new for cheap.

To a newbie to motherboards (like me) this looks neat. 2 spots for processors, up to 24gb ram.

But I think I heard that the bigger version of Vista only supports a max of 4 gb or ram, is that true?

It says the RAM is only DDR, not 2 or 3. Isn't that slower and more expensive?

And there is only 1 PCI-E(X16) and 1 (X1) with a couple of PCI slots. I wouldn't be able to run 2 graphics cards with it would I?

I was thinking with the amount of RAM and stuff it has it might be for a server? But I know nothing about servers so no clue if I'm right.

I've been looking to build a computer and I'm willing to pay a reasonably high price for the motherboard and Processor, then to just put in a little ram and HD then over time upgrade the computer to a nice rig.

(When I say reasonable I mean maybe 300 for the motherboard and 200 for the processor.)

So my question is: Is this motherboard for gaming? Would it be a good buy?

Thanks to anybody who contributes!

One thread is enough.

We will read it and answer in some time.

please

And a quick Google search before you post wont hurt,

1. Its an old mobo
2. It is made for servers.
3. It supports AMD opteron

Basically, dont get it

Rather get a P35 mobo (Around $75)

If you read the other posts you'd know they were an accident and that I don't know how to delete them. The site must have lagged because I did not go back and purposely post 3 times.

But thank you for the information. I knew it was from 2005ish and that it only used DDR ram and that it seemed like a server card, but I thought I'd ask here to see what people thought.

I do feel however that you were rude and passive aggressive in your post or else I'd say thank you.

he is right, unfortunately, even with two dual core processors on it, the performance that motherboard would offer would come nowhere near what a modern intel core 2 duo will dish out.

And to be on topic, I stand by what i said earlier. Rather get a P35 for around $75
