Is This Worth It?

wow that is a pretty good price, it should work for watching dvd and such, its got a plenty good hard drive size, and it comes with windows. Seems awesome... i may have to get one.

how is the processor in the link in the first post? its like 1.4ghz celeron...is that even halfway decent?

I had the same laptop with the exact same specs, except mine was an Acer.

Honestly, I hated that thing. It worked okay for internet and word processing, but wouldnt even play CS 1.6, so don't expect any gaming capabilities with it.

The biggest complaint I have is the battery life. Since it doesn't have Centrino, expect to get an hour at lowest settings. With the one I had, i got about 1 hour 15 minutes with everything on low (brightness at 0%), and only around 45min at max settings. So I don't recommend it if you plan on being unplugged alot.

If I were you, I would go on eBay and buy a much better new laptop for about the same price.

yeah i need one with good battery life and 6 lbs or under preferebly....any suggestions? its just gonna be for note taking and killing time between and in classes

I would look into customizing a Dell, HP, or Compaq. You can get them with 9-12Cell batteries, which will last several hours.

For reference, I had a powerful processor and video card on my laptop from Dell, and I could get up to 6 Hours of battery life on minumum settings, using a 9-Cell battery.

The ones that come with low-end models such as those are most likely 4-Cell.

sorry for double post...but i have a question regarding these core duos...can someone explain how much better they are performance wise...i mean its dual core ...and what im visualizing is that there are two 1.6ghz processors in a 1.6ghz core duo...so at first will u have to exhaust ur first 1.6ghz to fully take advantage of the second core or something? basically wha tim askin gis if im gonna use a compute rfor viewing movies... tv shows..playing music...note taking...maybe some online gaming like pogo ..lol not hard core gaming...do i need dual core...and if i get it will i notice a significant improvement in performance even if im not using heavy applications

Your computer has multiple processes, Windows has several, and every different app has one (or more). With a dual-core processor, the amount of processes are split up between both cores, so one core is doing half the work, and the other is doing the other half. So no matter if your just listening to music and surfing the web, one program will be on one core, and the other on the 2nd core.

Hope that makes sense.

ohhk yeah so whatever u do will be techincally faster or more efficcient even though u mite not notice the difference until u start using heavier software like burning cds or dvds?

Even doing light tasks such as having a few web browsers open will seem faster. But it will seem extremely fast if your doing something CPU intensive, such as rendering something in photoshop, and trying to do other things at the same time. Since the heavy app will be on one core, and the other core can focus on other tasks.

If I were you I'd go to Dell/Compaq/HP like Omega said, than customize one, I'm sure that the explosions have stopped since Dell recalled all those batteries. So you could probobly get one from Dell if you wanted to.
