is two cards better than one?

im lookin to spend about 350 on a graphics card or cards. im planning on buying an sli mobo so would i get better performance out of like 2- 175$ cards or one 350$ one?

Knockoff cards? What do you mean by that?

There really aren't any bad companies.

he means companies like BFG and Sapphire and stuff,they aren't knockoffs,they are authorized to build cards because they usually use ATI's schematics and change it a little to suit their fancies.They are just as good or better than the name brand ATI's.

Agreed... I don't know of any knockoff's. I'm sure there are some out there, but they are rare and illegal as far as I know...

As for the question, most of the time, a single expensive card would give you better performace. Best would probably be to check into the cards you can afford. If it's between say a 2x7600GS and 1x7900GT, check some benchmarks.
