Is Ubuntu 11.04 Really Worth The Upgrade?

I Just Wanted To Know If 11.04 Is Really Worth The Upgrade From 10.10? I Am Currently Running 10.10 But Are There Severe Differences That Would Help Performance Wise?

Nope. It would slow you down more most likely, especially if you use unity. If you used it in classic mode, i can't really say you would gain any performance from 10.10.

If your looking for performance improvements, you need to look at using a new distro.

I'll second that, I upgraded from 10 to 11.04 via the software manager, and then I lost ALL MY /proc/video/* stuff so I cannot change brightness from my scripts.
 Not to mention I don't like the new Unity so I switched to Classic.

I will probably do a clean install one of these days, and hopefully everything [acpi] will go back into /proc/

I'd hold off. If you want to use Unity, then try out Docky.
Oh I Already Have Docky, Flash, FF5 Chromium, 10 GB Slave Drive ( I Dont Need Much More Than That) 60 GB Master (Like I Said I Dont Need Much More Than This Anyways. This Is My Computer To Mess Around With And Try New Operating System's On My Main Machine Is A 200 GB SATA HDD.

never used 10.10, but I don't really notice a difference from 10.04 to 11.04. Ubuntu does seem to be slightly heavier now but a whole lot more functionality.

I do not want to touch Ubuntu 11.04 for another year. I like Ubuntu Version 10.10 32-bit right now. 99 percent of malicious software cannot touch my system and I do not have to pay for an anti-virus.

What would you not want to touch 11.04 for another year? The damn OS is only supported for 18 months and it has been out for four months and in another 12 months means you would only have support for 4 months. Also it does not matter which which version of Ubuntu you use, 99.9% of Viruses/spyware/Malware is on Windows and does not exist for Ubuntu. This is for the fact Ubuntu being Linux it is more secure and secoundly the OS commuinity may be large for a Linux community and is the third largest OS but in reality it is still kind of small which means less interest from the people who make the Malicious code.

Well, for one thing, Unity is brand new and should be treated as a beta until they get all the bugs worked out...

I just got a "six pack" DVD with five flavors of *buntu 11.04 on it (and a utility OS) and so I may try out some of these, but I do like the Ubuntu interface. It's just not mature enough for me to work with-- Unity breaks down and the entire system slows to a crawl when I attempt to customize it. Ubuntu One brings my machine to its knees-- I might as well be running a 386SX by then.

Until those problems are sorted out, I will have to stick to 10.04 or 10.10.

There will be bugs with Unity and I garuntee by the next LTS they will be fixed. I really think the point to Unity is to seperate itself from the Linux flavors all running gnome to give itself a unique look and being able to be user friendly like Windows and OSX.

thnx, didn't think it would be this much of an issue getting this solved, thought there would be 1 or 2 replies and done.
