Ok so i bought a netgear pci networking adapter and router both capable of 108 mbps, but since they dont have a patch for vista im forced to run at 54mbps. What am i running at on the HP OEM network equipment and is 54mbps an upgrade from what i would be at with just a router (if i didnt have the adapter)? Im on a HP Q6600. Im using these for XBOX360 online play also. TY

Im not quite sure I understand your question, but hopefully this will clear some things up. Your internet is not running at 54, or 108mbps. Thats your LAN connection speed. Your internet is probably something like 1-10mbps (Unless you live in china...24mbps :D). Upgrading anything at the moment and you would not notice a difference. UNLESS you happened to be sending files over your LAN connection from computer A to computer B that where more then a gig or two in size...and you did it every 3 seconds...

ok that cleared things up a little but say to my xbox 360, is 54mbps more than it would see coming from my comp w/o the new networking adapter? I heard that the xbox can get 100mbps. Im just trying to get as fast as a connection to my xbox360 as i can for lag free online play...

I don't think you understand what kobaj is saying, Your internet access is no way near 54mbs so therefore your ISP is the bottle neck for your xbox. If you want faster speed, contact your ISP.

Hope this helps.

It doesn't matter if your using a 10Mbps LAN connection, your internet most likely isn't anywhere near the speed of the LAN.

Im on cable so my ISP isnt really that slow, my dl is about 6mb and my up is only like 60kbs, should gaming be ok with these kind of stats? So for just xbox online gaming i shouldnt upgrade my network adapter because its not goin to help...correct? So just a ordinary 54mbps router is goin to do more than enough for my situation...is that correct as well?

6Mbps is most likely what you have, although you don't have 60KBps upload, you must mean around 512Kbps.

The 802.11g wireless network is more then enough, however thats only the case if the 360 is getting a strong signal. If it only has 1-2 bars and running below 11Mbps, then you may run into some lag issues.

How do i know whether the 360 is getting a strong signal or not? On the actual 360, the menu they have to test it, i had full bars yet when i would listen to music from the comp on the 360 while playing i would have some lag in and out...

EDIT- Yes i just checked my speeds im 5000 down and 500 up. is this good for what im trying to do?

You're internet speeds are excellent for gaming. Unfortunately I can't tell you exactly how to check the signal as I have never used a wireless adapter with the 360, but maybe someone else can chime in.
