Is vista worth getting in a LAPTOP?

I am getting a laptop soon and I wanted to know if vista is the right OS for a laptop and playing Games! this laptop will cost about $1500 and I don't want to mess it up, by any chance can someone suggest a laptop?

I recently got a laptop with xp that had a free upgrade to vista, and I love it. Most all of the negative things floating around about vista are just rumors. I have tons of games, programs, and other junk, and the only issues i ran into were nero6 wouldn't work, and my 10+ year old scanner wont work. Vista looks great, and runs just as good as it looks. Even though it is new now, it will just get more and more common, and I suggest getting it now. Especially if you are big into games and plan on keeping it for awhile.

yeah as long as the laptop has plenty of memory i dont see why not.
but before you do buy a laptop ask the guys in here what they think first because they may be able to find you a bettter spec & price one elsewhere ;)

Just about any laptop or computer you buy these days is going to have Vista on it, so you don't really have a choice unless it's a custom built place. I just bought a lappy for my wife and my Sister. I kinda like Vista from what I've scene, but Make sure you have at THE VERY LEAST 1 GB of RAM.

But at that price it's hard to find a laptop with dedicated video memory and the intel 945 isn't too bad, but it's not going to run most newer games.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! IMO i wouldnt go vista! every had a bad nightmare that wont go away? well its caled Vista :)

XP is the way to go IMO. i work with computers all day and i have to say that Vista is the worst OS i have come across in a long while. it eats your Ram like there is no tomorrow!

to all the Vista users out there this is just an opinion :)

He's right it is a memory hog, but good luck finding a laptop without it except on Dell's website. It's not that bad of an OS other than being a memory hog though. I prefer XP at this point myself, but other than memory what are some of your complaints 6071842?

yeah it hogs the memory.

well my complaints are the same as many people's. software incompatibility issues and i think IMO it still has many bugs and no matter what you do to try and get the best performance out of it it can still be a struggle.

TBH i think im over windows at this point as i do a lot of motion graphics etc it seems that i spend more time fixing my computer and having issues rather than actually do work :)

it'll just be me but all my apps should work and they do its they glitch sometimes.

enough of my ranting what are some of your opinions on Vista jjsevdt? :)

Yeah you bring up some good points. My biggest complaint at this point is Acer's lack of complete support for it's native applications.

I will say I have never used compatability mode so much in my life. it solves a lot of problems, but not all. The other thing I'm tired of is the constant asking if actions are authorized.

Lastly, home premium doesn't support remote desktop.

My mother-in-law's computer has a celeron D with 512mb of memory. I told her to let me put XP on it, but she says it's fine. I don't mean to digress, but there are a few points to consider for your purchase.

My OFFICIAL recomendation at this point is have an XP disk to install over the Vista that will come on your laptop.

Vista isn't as big of a memory hog as people make it out to be. I have a laptop, with 2 gb of ram, and a 128 mb nvidia graphics card, and vista ran great. I've noticed little difference between XP and Vista.

Yeah, vista is A JOKE. That thing is such a resource hog, even more than XP. Why does a 3d desktop take so much resources? Why can linux/GNU do it on a computer that can barely run xp? I would just get a cheap-o laptop, put ubuntu on it and you are good to go.

I don't think a deffinate answer is going to be made for jasonxman. It's your decision to make, but understand most all sold in stores will have it installed already.

This thread's getting to be a post count band wagon of meaningless comments.

if you're even still looking at this thread jasonxman, spend some time with vista and keep your license so if you go back to xp for now, you can go to vista again in the future.
