is windows defender really helpful?

I notice it writing to the disk alot in performance moniter, it also takes up ram and tome it doesnt seem that usefull except to change startup items.

also i have search index enabled on some things and even after the index is built and im not doing much at all alot of disk and ram access is registered why is this?

I have never used Windows Defender. I use a combo of ESET and Ad Aware SE.

Its useless imo,best disable it and get some better protection!
