Is Yahoo watching us?

I received an email from someone that said they read this in an article:

****Subject: Yahoo Security

If you belong to ANY Yahoo Group - be aware that
Yahoo is now using "Web Beacons" to track the Internet
navigation of every Yahoo user. It's similar to
cookies,
but allows Yahoo to record every website and every
group
you visit -ANYWHERE- on the Internet,
even when you're not connected to Yahoo.

To stop this privacy invasive surveillance, go to
Yahoo's updated privacy statement at:
http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacy

About half-way down the page, in the section on
cookies, you will see a link that says WEB BEACONS.

Click on the phrase "Web Beacons." On the page that
opens, find a paragraph entitled "Outside the Yahoo
Network."

In that section find a little "Click Here to Opt Out"
link that will let you "opt-out" of their snooping. Be
careful (!) NOT to click the button shown on the
resulting
'You have opted out successfully' page. It is
a "Cancel Opt-out" button that, if clicked, will UNDO
the opt-out. Be warned!

Important:
Yahoo's monitoring
-- and your ability to opt-out of it --
is NOT user-specific.
It is MACHINE -and- BROWSER specific.
***This means you will have to set the cookie
'Opt-out' on -every- computer and -every- browser
you use to access Yahoo and the rest of the Internet.

*****Please forward this concern to your other groups.*****

Is this true or is it totaly bogus and someone just had a lot of free time on their hands?

Yeah this is true I've just looked it up

But I think you'll find the whole tracking you OUTSIDE of Yahoo is bogus, but I'm double checking that now.

EDIT: I don't know actually it might be doing that actually, best thing is to opt-out lol

people can always track your activity one way or another, not necessarily individuals, but bigger companies I'm sure can. My question is what does it matter? What can yahoo do to you with the information they get, it's notlike they're gonna be opening credit cards up in your name or anything, and if you're doing something THAT illegal to get noticed, well then it's probably better for the rest of us that you get in trouble

Yeah web beacons cannot monitor our internet access outside of the site they are based on.

Besides if your that concerned about being watched, invest in some ip maskers or something (Don't really there illegal)
