Issue at startup

Hello folks,

The issue I was experiencing is that upon startup the computer would freeze. It would freeze at the Windows screen where the green bar is scrolling from left to right (running Vista) which was right after going through the BIOS. I was able to go into BIOS and change different settings and change boot options and all that stuff. I initially thought I was having a hard drive problem or maybe a software problem (and I possibly still am), but every hardware diagnostic I ran came back ok and it still showed my HDD as a bootable device. I tried booting from a Linux Live CD and that would also freeze when booting up so I figured I had a different problem...

So to resolve this issue, I disabled things in the BIOS settings such as Onboard audio, Onboard LAN, and Onboard 1394. Once I disabled these I saved and exited BIOS and Windows was able to boot up just fine! I then went back into BIOS and, one by one, enabled the settings I had disabled. Turns out that the when "Onboard 1394" is enabled, the computer would freeze at startup. With Onboard 1394 disabled, I am able to boot to Windows just fine and everything is working as designed.

So my question is, do you guys think I am having a driver issue with the 1394 controller? Is there even a driver for this? I don't have any peripherals that utilize the 1394 port anyway so I really wouldn't miss it if I were to leave it disabled, but could this be a problem that I need to resolve to avoid any other issues? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. For now, I am just going to leave the Onboard 1394 setting disabled in the BIOS and enjoy the functionality of my PC!

Yes, there is a driver for the 1394 firewire port. You may either have a corrupt driver or just a bad port. If you don't need it, leave it disabled.
